BioAlicia Clare Gallagher was born in Donegal, Ireland and ran back there after her daughter Maible was born. Maible was the result of an affair with a married man - Matthew Barton - who was also a former boyfriend from her days at Hogwarts. He wasn't about to leave his wife and other daughter, so Alicia attempted to cut ties as much as possible with him and elected to raise their daughter on her own, far away from the magical world.
Of course, there was no denying that Maible was a magical child and she eventually went to Hogwarts. Still, Alicia shuns her own magical skils, preferring her job at a small Bed and Breakfast in Donegal and refusing all offers of financial support from Matthew. She allows her daughter a relationship with the man only because there is no way around it, especially since the girl seems to adore her father, despite how much he isn't around.
